REVOLUTION AIR MINI PUMP 160g £9.99
The Revolution air mini pump is a high quality roadside inflator with performance that will give the others on test a seriously good run for your hard earned.
Time was when a tenner spelt composite construction. However, the air sports a tough highly polished, though easy to clean aluminium alloy barrel, which is along with the distinctive flip-out “detonator” handle is designed to accommodate both high pressure and volume rubber.
In common with the Specialized Air Tool, it also features a “clever” valve head system complete with thumb lock for plug and play convenience while a rubberised end cap keeps slimy stuff from sneaking inside. The beefy resin carry bracket ensures solid, rattle free tenure.
Experimentation suggests other brands are also quite accommodating - handy when swapping between bikes but we’re not talking universal fit - especially given the pump’s midi dimensions. Stock 4mm Allen screws could’ve been a bit longer too; heavy duty T6 aluminium cages meant rummaging through the spares jar.
Practical in terms of pressures, we’ve struggled to slip ours inside poacher’s pockets. Old school saddle bags, hydration or rack type packs though swallowed it. Deep section rims with modest valve stems presented a few challenges too - after a bit of faff, we got the job done but would recommended a dry run from the comfort of home rather than finding out the hard way.
Moan over, the air seems consistently good with high pressure/volume rubber and will deliver a genuine 100psi plus inside road sections without needing arms the size of Arnie's. I’ve raised 700x23s to 100 in 80 strokes.
Admittedly, achieving their optimal 120psi required herculean effort and primal grunting during the final stages but mission complete. Audax/light tour typical 28mm sections hit the ton in 92 and 1.5 inch mtb rubber went from flaccid to 65psi in a very reasonable 150. Ultimately, riders needing more than 125psi should partner with CO2 cartridges but otherwise it’s an absolute bargain.
