ULTIMATE UK CYCLE ROUTE PLANNER 3rd edition
OK. this is not one for navigation, or even for the detail of routes - though there are suggestions and tips aplenty. This is very much the big picture. Distinguishing between national, regional and local routes, on-road and traffic-free ilks, a map on this scale cannot be expected to cover too much close detail.
There's no attempt to detail type or quality of surface. That's for the next level down. The main use of this map is simply to show how, on longer tours, one can avoid the busier roads on traffic-free routes, link together signed routes and, perhaps tick off the list of routes completed - if you are so inclined. Route numbers are clearly shown for further reference.
On-line mapping is the way of the world for many, but it is hard to get a national overview of much clarity at decent resolution on most screens. So, back to paper. The double-sided map is split between north and south and includes Northern Ireland.
Those friends of the cyclist - railways, stations and ferries - are shown.
For those who have long UK tours in mind or for those who just like to look and dream, this is a very useful planning tool. A snip at £9.95.
